Bourke NAIDOC Celebrations

NAIDOC 2025 proved to be a busy affair in Bourke, with the NAIDOC Committee developing and delivering a wide range of events and activities; showcasing our proud Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander culture.

With events ranging from a Women’s Breakfast, an Elders Luncheon through to a Community Fun Day, local residents and visitors had a wide range of opportunities to explore.

One stand out event was the opening and recognition of the Pound Yard Camp. For many of our Elders the Pound Yard Camp was home when they were growing up, with Aboriginal families having been relocated to the site and forced to live in corrugated iron humpies with no water, electricity or sewerage.

We heard stories of hardship, resilience and tales of young people making the best of their situation; those young people are today’s Elders, leading the next generation of our young people into the future. Maranguka is proud to have been a part of the 2025 Bourke NAIDOC Committee and a sponsor and recognises the contribution of the community and service providers that made this an amazing 2025 NAIDOC in Bourke.
